Meet Brian Barnhart
"In 2023, Barnhart will be in his 22nd season as the “Voice of the Illini” after a long stint in professional baseball, including two years as the play-by-play voice of the Anaheim Angels. Barnhart serves as the voice of the Busey Bank Fighting Illini Sports Network, providing play-by-play coverage of football and men’s basketball and as the host of the statewide coaches call in program.
A native of nearby Tolono, Barnhart graduated from Liberty University before beginning a 15-year career in professional baseball in 1986. In 1998, Barnhart was named the play-by-play announcer for the Angels and spent two full seasons with the American League club before returning to the Champaign-Urbana area in 2000.
He currently is a news and sports announcer at WDWS-AM 1400 in Champaign, hosting the popular “Penny for your Thoughts” show weekday mornings. During the 2007 season, Barnhart was honored by the Illinois Broadcasters Association with the “Silver Dome Award for Best Sports Play-by-Play” for his call of Illinois’ football upset of No. 1 Ohio State. In 2008, Barnhart was named “Sportscaster of the Year” in the state of Illinois by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association."

How much does it cost to attend?
Nothing! However, there will be an opportunity to financially partner with the ministry during the event. It’s our biggest fundraising event of the year! We do require that all guests register online to receive a table assignment.

What should I wear?
Typical dress is business casual. That said, it really doesn’t matter.
Can I bring my kids?
Unfortunately not. This is our only “adult only” event throughout the entire year. We want to maximize the number of adults in attendance to be able to influence kids throughout the rest of the year. If you’d like your kid(s) to get involved in the ministry, we’d love to talk with you. Give us a call!
